Position Overview:
The MDS Data Entry Staff is responsible for accurately and efficiently entering, updating, and maintaining
Minimum Data Set (MDS) information into the designated systems. This role ensures that resident assessments are processed timely and in compliance with federal and state regulations while supporting the interdisciplinary team in maintaining accurate resident records.
Job Responsibilities:
Data Entry and Management:
- Accurately enter MDS data into the facility and health information systems.
- Verify data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with assessment forms.
- Regularly update resident records to reflect changes in care plans and assessments.
Compliance:
- Ensure data entry adheres to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of current MDS processes, updates, and coding requirements.
- Assist in audits and reviews to ensure data integrity.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with the MDS Coordinator, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely submission of assessments.
- Provide administrative support for the MDS process, including document preparation and distribution.
- Address discrepancies or issues with MDS data as identified by staff or external reviewers.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Generate reports and summaries from MDS data as requested.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical files for MDS-related documentation.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Systems or Management or Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Previous experience with MDS data entry or long-term care facility documentation is a plus.
Skills:
- Proficiency in data entry with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with health information systems (e.g., PointClickCare, CareTracker, etc.).
- Basic understanding of MDS 3.0 processes and CMS regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Technical Proficiency:
- Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to learn and adapt to the facility’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System
- Ability to learn and adapt to specialized software systems used in MDS completion and reporting.
